The Americans with Disabilities Act requires that employers make reasonable accommodations for individuals who have disabilities. How might this requirement affect teachers, law enforcement officers, and firefighters? How is it legal for law enforcement to turn applicants away for diseases like type 2 diabetes?

Note from professor:

Class,

I will offer Tips and Hints on each of our weekly DB’s (we typically have two per week). I will focus on at least one element of our DB’s (as our DB’s usually have two questions per DB). My Tips and Hints are entirely optional, and you can choose to follow my advice or not – the quality of your response(s) is up to you and you are responsible for all of your research, interpretation, and APA formatting (citation and referencing). These Tips and Hints are offered as a courtesy. Thanks, Dr. Vic.

Dr. Vic: Please make sure you fully discuss our DBs do not just post two or three or even four sentences, please make sure you have reached a solid graduate level discussion. Also, post at least one (1) peer-to-peer comment for each DB as well by Sunday of each week – posting more peer comments is preferred for graduate courses, please keep in mind, at least one comment is required.

Discussion 1: “The Americans with Disabilities Act”

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires that employers make reasonable accommodations for individuals who have disabilities. How might this requirement affect teachers, law enforcement officers, and firefighters? How is it legal for law enforcement to turn applicants away for diseases like type 2 diabetes? Dr. Vic: Please make sure you read the ADA section from Ch. 3, p.p. 66-67 and discuss the levels of application for ADA and where a condition such as physical fitness and also diabetes might be applied. You may want to also touch on the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act from within Ch. 3 as well. You might need to also conduct some external research on this to support your reply.

Note: All students are required to post a minimum of two (2) posts per online discussion thread. Students must have one (1) original post and a minimum of one (1) other post per discussion thread.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Dr. Vic.
